2024 Kim un yong cup
The 2024 Kim Un Yong Cup was held at Taekwondo-Won in Muju, South Korea. Team ATMA/USA was represented by Eric Gun and Ethan Gun.
In a field packed with talented Korean athletes, Eric Gun was able to win a 🥉 medal in the men’s O17 freestyle division. In the recognized poomsae division, Eric Gun teamed up with KHH Taekwondo (á„€á…®á†¨á„€á…¡á„ƒá…¢á„‘á… á„’á…자ᄒá…á„‚á…§) in the -30 men’s team division. Winning a 🥈 medal with a margin of .02 to another KHH Taekwondo Team.
In the junior sparring division, Ethan Gun faced Indonesia in the semi finals. With the match going into 3 full rounds, Ethan gave up a match tying head shot with 3 seconds left. With the match tied 8-8, Ethan Gun scored a body shot with 1 second left. Winning the match 10-8.
Ethan Gun faced Japan in the finals. This match also went down to the wire. With 1 round under each others belt, Ethan Gun was down 9-0 with 34 seconds left to go in the 3rd and final round. With a lot of ground to make up, Ethan made the round 9-3 with 10 seconds left. With a head shot and a penalty the score was 9-7. With the time ticking down, Ethan Gun landed a clutch head kick. Winning the match and the 🥇 medal with a final score of 9-10.
